Gorumara National Park

In the year 1949, the small
Garumara Forest was declared as wildlife sanctuary and later in
1992, it was honored as a National Park. Gorumara National park
is located in the Dooars region of Jalpaiguri district and
shaped on the bank of Murti River. The National Park is a large
ecological unit. Garumara is famous for Asiatic One-Horned
Rhinoceros. There is a watchtower inside, from where panoramic
view of the entire park including Murti Valley is visible. Tower
view is the best for observing wild animals especially rhino,
deers, bisons, elephants etc. as they regularly come to the salt
reservoir below the tower. The place is well connected to city
Siliguri. Lataguri is growing tourism township in the dooars
adjacent to Gorumara. To meet the growing inflow of tourists,
many hotels have come up in the city. Even one can stay at Murti
for making trips in the forest. |
